In Maple Ridge, we have Kanaka Park. It is a lovely walk along the Fraser River. In spring, the moss is vibrant green and the leaves are just forming buds ....

The birds come to bath in the shallow water of Kanaka Creek. They wash the salt water out of their feathers. |
Kanaka Park is named for the Hawaiins who were brought to work in the Hudson Bay Fort across the river. Many of the local First Nations People can trace their lineage to the Kanakas.
