FAN produces two shows each year: one 25-30 pieces for guilds and smaller gallery space and one larger show for a larger gallery.  These shows are available for exhibition at galleries and guilds.

Below is a taste from the show: 40 artists working in pairs and 44 art pieces.

The first partner works in a realistic representation and the partner's piece is abstracted from  that piece.

FAN retreat 2013

The Fibre Art Network meets once a year in the fall. This group guides the activity and growth of the group. This year it was at 'The Haven' on Gabriola Island, across from Naniamo on Vancouver Island.

Each year about 1/3 of the members attend ... we move to a different location each year ... so we are renewing friendships while we make a name card.

Our challenge this year was to bring and exchange a page size art piece.

We meet in small groups to discuss specific issues.

It rained most of the time ... but, we did get out in the sunshine on the last day.

Many cultures are represented in the gardens.

The woods are damp and mossy.

Where the ferry comes in there is a channel with interesting formations.

Seaweed floats from it's bulb. Starfish and jellyfish are plentiful.

2012 Fibre Art Network Retreat

Below are some photos of the WATERWORKS FAN exhibit to illustrate what a great gallery space we were able to show our work in! The Chapel Gallery is in North Battleford. Historically, it is the chapel of what was once a boy's boarding school. The space is large and well lit. WATERWORKS is our most extensive and varied exhibit to date.

Margie Davidson's performance project represents a year of knitting daily.  The project was draped around the floor of the gallery. She worked on it each day and the record is on tabs added to the side. Each season is represented in its colours.

 The show is hung along two long walls and the shorter end wall. The gallery was able to hang some pieces from the ceiling to allow viewing from all sides.
Sharon Rubuliak and Judy Weiss created a free standing piece titled 'Refreshing, leaving it cleaner than you found it'.

Hard working until the end ... Holly Hildebrand and Kathy Dill were our retreat organizers, Debbie  Tyson is our coordinator. They are packing WATERWORKS up after its month long exhibit. Two possible new venues are in the planning.

Meet the retreat attendees! This happy group includes some members who have attended every retreat and some 'newbies'. A great time was had by all!

Check out our past exhibits as well! Each year we create two shows. The first is a set of works of a specific size designed for smaller galleries. The smaller show has its debut with the CQA/ACC annual National Juried Show. The second show is larger in it's scope and is open to a wider variety of shapes and forms. It is designed for a larger gallery space.

Our shows are available to travel.

Fibre Art Network 2012

The Fibre Art Network has been very successful this year with venues for exhibitions.

'Canadian Content' debuted in New Zealand, was shown in several Canadian venues and is going to Houston TX as a concurrent show in the International Quilt Show.

Below is my entry: 'Kaua'i Gold'

'From Away', opened as a concurrent show in Halifax, Nova Scotia with the CQA/ACC National Juried 2012 show. It is available for travel to guilds and small galleries.

My entry is Kanaka Creek Sunset:

'Waterworks' will open in Battleford, SK in September. This exhibit is larger, 50 entries of various sizes. 'Waterworks is available after October to travel to galleries.

My entry is 'Buterflies are Free'. It was fun to work on ... the design shows on both sides of the quilt. What I had in mind was a quilt that could be hung in a window ... to avoid birds trying to fly through the window! I used a hand dyed fabric to give a misty look.

I enjoy doing the dense stitching. I use a mid arm - Innova 18".
