TAST #36 Turkman and #37 Kiko's Flower

#36 The Turkman stitch is interlaced, creating a band. It has a simple rhythmic action.#37 Kiko's Flower Stitch. This was an easy stitch, basically a detached a few detached loops and then a boullion stitch joining them on the edge. The pink thread is very course and bulky ... the part at the right is the Kiko stitch. The leaf is also an example, but it was a soft thread and doesn't show the stitch well either.

TAST II #34 & 35

#34 Buttonholed Double Chain: a little tricky! The green sample is my variation.
Sharon recommended a review, so from the left: twisted chain, spiked chain, oyster stitch and the Spiked Knotted Cable Chain in line and circle.
Although they are a little complex, they are not hard.

TAST II #32 & # 33

#32 Shell Chain stitch ... an interesting textural stitch.
Sharon posts one stitch per week. For directions http://www.pintangle.com/journal/2010/10/5/tast-2010-week-32-shell-chain-stitch.html
#33 Lock Stitch: I love the look of this stitch and, best of all, it is easy! http://www.pintangle.com/journal/2010/10/12/tast-2010-week-33-lock-stitch.html
The task is to experiment with the stitch, different threads and sizes of stitches.

TAST II #31 Raised Herringbone

TAST II # 28 Raised Chain, 29 Raised Ch.Variation

# 28 Raised Chain (top samples: the first is a heavy thread foundation in a semi circle shape with the raised chain in gold. The second sample is the green foundation with the heavier thread as the raised chain.# 29 Raised Chain Variation: green foundation with pink raised chain. The second sample is a curved line of foundation with the thicker thread chained in a loose stitch.

TAST II # 27 Woven Trellis

I had fun with this. I found the heavier threads to be the easiest to pack down for a dense weaving. I liked the green hairy one, rather than couch a single line of a hairy stitch ... you can get a wider band. The finer cotton threads were more difficult to get a good look. The silkier finer threads were a little easier. I liked the look of the open woven rope - longer one. The fuzzy beige one was a fuzzy velvety thread and might work for a caterpillar ... or something.

TAST # 25 Vandyke Stitch & #26 Chained Cross

This is part of the Take A Stitch Tuesday II Challenge run by Sharon on the Pin Tangle Blog (see blog list on right). I enjoy learning the new stitches ... one a week!
The vandyke stitch allows for a lot of variation. I like this one!The Chained Cross is an easy stitch, it begins with a diagonal stitch and the second stitch is a loop. It is an interesting stitch and the photo shows detail well with the course thread (hand dyed).

Tast II #23 Waved Chain Stitch and #24 Siennese Stitch

This Challenge is run by Sharon http://www.pintangle.com/Tast II week #23- The Waved Chain Stitch. This was an easy stitch to do. It is a chain stitch in 3 lengths of stitch. The top two stitching samples create a wave. The bottom sample uses the wave stitch as a a filler stitch. The flower is just a detached chain. Week # 24 Siennese Stitch. This one is also easy ... as you can see in the single stitches. The variegated thread used is hand dyed.

TAST II #15, #16, #17 & #18

TAST# 15 - Ladder stitch. For some unknown reason, I had difficulty with this stitch. I'm still not sure I have the left side correct. TAST II #16 Italian Knotted Border Stitch ... loved this one!TAST II # 17 Sword Stitch - simple and could be used in many ways.
TAST II #18 Wave Stitch ... a great filler stitch, easy
If you want to look at the source of the challenge. Look to the right for the Pin Tangle Blog.

TAST II #12,13,14

TAST II # 12 Sorbello: This stitch is like a cross stitch with a knot in the center. I tested with two single stitches, a grid, variation in length and width (wave) and yarn in a larger stitch. Lots to work with here!TAST II # 13 Raised Cup: Examples: yellow-orange is cord with 3 small beads in the center, yellow is soft heavy embroidery thread with a little pink angelina in the center, the blue is a woven variegated hand-dyed ribbon and the purple is a wool thread with a center french knot.
TAST II # 14 Herringbone Buttonhole: easy to do and makes a raised texture.

And, for the good news ... I'm up to date with the TAST II challenge!

TAST II #11 Bouillion ButtonHole

I love the bouillion stitch it is combined here with the process of doing the buttonhole stitch. It is not unlike doing a french knot ... but larger. It gives more dimension to your embroidery. I included some french knots on the round piece. The fabric is hand dyed.

TAST II #10 Cloud Stitch

This is a great stitch. It can be pretty and neat or large and with texture.
The black spots in the purple abstract are french knots with black/silver thread.

TAST II #9 Raised Herringbone Band

The Raised Herringbone Stitch has 3 layers; (example: center top)
1. Lay down a flat line of horizontal stitches to form a band ... yellow
2. Do a line of Herring Bone Stitch (a little loose). Stitch over the band. ... green
3. wrap a single stitch at the top and bottom of the herringbone stitch. ... brown
The curved sample uses too many veriegated threads and the design gets lost.

TAST #7 Rope Stitch & #8 Fancy Hem Stitch

This stitch gives a raised line of stitching. The lines are different weights of thread. The ugly butterfly is heavy threads and long stitches.I varied this sitch with distance between stitches, different weights of thread and 3 or 4 wraps to the stitch. My mother did this stitch in a tray linen I use on my tea-wagon.

TAST #6 Buttonhole Eyelet Flower

The buttonhole flower begins with a buttonhole wheel. Then a boullion stitch is added around the circle. Here, I did a circle of gold boullions and then a circle of mauve. The green stem is a running stitch and leaves are represented by knotted buttonhole (double & triple). The fabric is denim ... a little hard to embroider on due to the dense twill weave.

TAST II #5 Knotted Buttonhole

Buttonhole stitches are varied and easy to do.

TAST II #4 Portugese Border

This is an easy stitch ... once you get the hang of it. It is simply a loop stitch on a foundation of of ladder stitches. It creates a high raised texture. I varied the texture and thickness of threads and size of stitches. The dark heavy example is on a ladder of fine cord and the loops are made with a bulky thread made from twisted silk threads. The silk threads are East Indian sari garments that are taken apart ... thread by thread.

TAST II #3 Beaded Hedebo Edge

This stitch can be used on either side of a ribbon or as an edge treatment. This is alternating big and small X stitches. A bead is stitched over the small X stitch and a row of buttonhole stitches cover the long Xstitch floats.
I learned a couple of things:
- make smaller stitches where the beads go ... so they don't show
- go back with another stitch from behind with ordinary thread to stabilize the beads (second sample)

TAST II #1 Diamond Stitch & #2 Knotted Loop Stitch

In 2007, I started on a 52 week embroidery challenge - run by Sharon B from Australia. http://www.pintangle.com/
We are now starting a new challenge. This is the Diamond Stitch.I liked this stitch, there is a nice rhythm to the process. It lends itself to addition of a bead in the center.
Below is the knotted Loop Stitch. I had trouble with this one! I may have invented a sew stitch rather than making the correct stitch! So ... with some help from Sharon, I did the stitch correctly.
This is what the stitch should look like.
