Abstract Challenge: January - Ice & February - Tropics

I have worked with the Abstract Challenge group since 2004.
Each month a theme is chosen and we do a small quilt 8"x8". It is a great way to work with subjects you might not choose and with techniques you want to try.
Ice Berg: The January topic was Ice. I did this with reverse applique. The bottom layer is painted batting. On top of that, I placed an iridescent sheer. After sewing with free motion stitching, I cut the sheer away and stitched the sky and water.
Kaua'i Gold. The February topic was tropic. I was designing a larger quilt for a show and decided to do a small one to test the colours and thread. The source was a sunset on Ke'e Beach in Kaua'i Hawaii. Painted on white fabric.
