Pressures of Time

April 27 - May 1, 2010, the Canadian Quilt Association is holding the National Juried Show in Calgary, Alberta. http://www.canadianquilter.com/events/quilt-canada-2010.php
The FibreArtNetwork is having a special exhibit called Geophysical. http://www.fibreartnetwork.com/
I will have two entries in the FAN show: Pressures of Time & Fire and Darkness.
Pressures of Time: I have always been fascinated by landforms and the forces that form them. The western side of Alberta is framed by the Rocky Mountains with the rolling Alberta Foothills in the foreground. Two million years ago, the sun set on an inland sea. Today, that same sun sets on the Rocky Mountains and Alberta Foothills. The relentless pressure of Tectonic plates has bent and broken the mantle of the earth.detail of foreground ...
This is the same area from 40,000 feet.
Fire and Darkness: The inspiration for my abstract wallquilt was the concept of energy and the 'Big Bang Theory'. Energy is at the base of the universe as we know it.
The techniques: reverse applique and double needle.
